What to wear on the first date with him? You've been thinking about it for weeks, maybe even months: the first date with that special someone you met on Bumble.
Is this person really "the one"?
Well, in a perfect world, they'd be exactly as perfect as you imagined them to be. But in reality, most of us are just going to have regular old human flaws and pillowy bellies.
And that's OK!
The trick is putting together an outfit that makes you feel great about yourself — even if it doesn't look like Gwyneth Paltrow in 1999.
So we asked our Niva-style editors what they wear on their first dates (and what they wish they would've worn!).
Spilling those outfit ideas in this article for your first date and to grab more after.
Dress up a casual outfit
A pair of jeans and a t-shirt is classic, but it's also a good idea to dress up an outfit that's on the casual side. If you're wearing a button-down shirt and jeans, try adding a blazer instead of a heavy coat or jacket. Or if you're wearing sneakers with your dress pants, throw on some heels (and maybe even more jewelry).
Printed Silk Skirt And A Casual Top
You can also play around with the tone of your look: if the weather is nice out, consider wearing something brighter than usual; if it's cold outside and you want to stay warm while still looking cute, consider layering lighter tops under heavier jackets or coats.
Dressy Crop Top And Jeans
Pencil Skirt, Jacket and Scarf
When it comes to first dates, there's no need to overthink what you wear—you can always pick up a stylish cardigan or scarf on your way out the door if you don't have time to stop by the store beforehand. But when it comes down to it, there are some outfits that will help show off your personality and put you in great company with your soon-to-be boyfriend or girlfriend (or maybe just friend).
A V-Neck Dress with Boots
Here are some outfit ideas for Sunday brunch picnics:
- Dress up a casual outfit with accessories like scarves and statement jewelry.
- Wear something similar to what you would wear at work—maybe even leave your blazer at home so he knows how relaxed this date is going to be!
- Try wearing a dress with a jacket or cardigan over top when going out for breakfast on Sunday mornings.

A day out
Wear comfortable clothes. You’re going to be walking around, and you won’t want to be wearing anything that is too tight or too loose.
If you can wear a coat, this is a good idea because it will keep you warm if it gets cold out and also make your outfit look more complete.
A No Fail Red Outfit
Print Dress and Hat
Wear a bag that is easy to carry. You don't need to put everything in your pockets—it's probably just easier to carry around a small purse or backpack with some snacks or water bottles in it, especially if there's no food court nearby! If possible, try not to bring anything heavier than what would fit in an average-sized purse (so maybe don't bring along the yearbooks from high school).

Comfortable shoes are important too! This means no heels unless they're super casual ones like sneakers or flats; otherwise take off those cute boots as soon as possible because nobody wants sore feet on their first date (and trust me: these things happen).
I'm sure everyone has heard about how bad heels can be for your body before so don't worry about them; instead focus on having fun with whoever it is who invited them over!
A Smart Wrap Dress
A day-to-night look is one of the easiest ways to create an outfit that can be worn to a variety of places and occasions. For example, if you're heading out for drinks after work with your coworkers, wear an outfit where the top and bottom are more casual but still stylish—like this top from wrap dress.
If you decide to go somewhere else after dinner (or even during dinner), it won't matter because all you need to do is change up your shoes or add a jacket or scarf!

Dinner and a Movie
For dinner and a movie, we suggest keeping things casual. While you want to look put together, you shouldn’t over-think this outfit too much. Be comfortable enough that you can focus on your date and not how uncomfortable your outfit feels.
Don't wear something too revealing or have any parts of your body exposed (i.e., cleavage). Pick something that makes you feel good!

Be yourself when well-dressed
Dress for the occasion.
It’s important to dress for the weather, too. If you’re heading out on a romantic first date that will likely involve sitting in a restaurant over dinner and drinks, opt for something cool but breathable—like a shirtdress or cropped blazer with a pair of jeans or leather leggings (and maybe some boots).
But if it's raining outside, don't wear your favorite pair of white shoes!
Asymmetric Top and Leggings
Don't wear what others expect of you. Dressing how someone else wants us to dress is usually an uncomfortable experience at best, though it can be very rewarding when we do so voluntarily because we want to make people around us happy.
A Mini Dress in Bright Hues and a Dainty Ponytail
Remember, it’s all about how you feel when you look in the mirror. So it's important to be true to yourself when choosing an outfit for this kind of occasion.
